Kari Faux – CRY 4 HELP review

★★★★: The album cover is gross, but don't let it stop you from listening to @KARIFAUX's story of drug abuse & loss

Kari Faux – CRY 4 HELP

Kari Faux combines singing, rapping, and vibey “stoner” beats to tell a story of drug abuse, loss, and depression.

“I can take two things, a dick and a hint”

From the raunchy album cover to the drugged-out lyrics, Kari Faux‘s CRY 4 HELP feels just like that, a cry for help. On face value, you’d expect this to be a sex-laden project worthy of spins at your local turn-up. But a look beyond the surface reveals deep pain and insecurities.

CRY 4 HELP Storyline

The album begins with “MEDICATED“, where Kari struggles with experiencing lows, routinely turning to drugs to fill her void: “Here we go again…/ Another low again/ Here we go again…/ Another high again/“, she cries. This is a perfect intro, because it sets the scene for the trials and tribulations explained within the album.

Drug references, explained.

CRY 4 HELP spotlights drug use. In fact, there’s a drug reference on every song except the tearful outro, “LATCH KEY“. However, the repeated drug abuse mentioned throughout this album seems to be explained at the “LATCH KEY” outro.

KARI FAUX album cover cry 4 help

The album’s entire purpose seems to serve as one big lead-up to the outro “LATCH KEY” where Kari Faux details a sexual encounter turned rape, in which the condom broke, causing Kari to become pregnant. The pregnancy later resulting in a miscarriage. This would explain the continued drug use and depression experienced in tracks 1 thru 4, along with the attention-seeking cover detailing a cry for help.

VERDICT

★★★★There are drug references on every song leading up to the outro, “LATCH KEY“, which leads me to believe that this album is a short story, an explanation of the album’s cover and title, a CRY 4 HELP. I appreciate this short story from Kari Faux.
