Lupe Fiasco – DROGAS Light
Released: 10 February 2017
Lupe Fiasco didn’t seem to bother to put much effort into this project, so I won’t bother to do much of an extensive review.
Lupe Fiasco scored his own project a 7/10, but I’d go lower…
Lupe went on Twitter and reviewed this album personally, and he reviewed it in the same way with similar rhetoric I would, but with a higher score. He gave his own project a 7/10 but I’d go even lower at 5/10. DROGAS Light doesn’t feel cohesive; DROGAS Light SOUNDS like a compilation of throwaway records. Lupe describes this is as having a variety mix and “letting pieces fall where they may”. Eh…Personally, I have no desire to hear Lupe rap at 70% and flow-jack for an entire project. It’s not his lane. It was only interesting on Enemy Of The State which was vintage, pre-LASERS Lu.

Verdict
DROGAS Light could’ve been chopped down in size and benefited. This project feels like 1/2 compilation album, 1/2 Lasers leftovers. It’s all over the place with no direction.
I‘ve been a Lupe supporter since the Fahrenheit mixtapes. I even liked records off of the Lasers album. But theres no reason for me to revisit this project outside a few select songs. I think that naming this project DROGAS Light as the prelude to the eventual DROGAS album was a mistake. This project does not make me desire to hear DROGAS at all.
Don’t sign bad record deals, kids.
