Fabolous – The Soul Tape 1 Review

This tape does nothing for me. I came into this mixtape like I try to come into every album/mixtape – with no expectations. It makes for a more fair review. After listening to this piece, I don’t think any more or less of Fabolous as a rapper, and while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s definitely not good either. He’s not re-inventing himself.

Kanye West – The College Dropout song-by-song album review

If there’s one album/film/story or any other sub-genre within the art medium that captures one artist’s hunger and drive, Kanye West’s debut album, The College Dropout, is undoubtedly at the top of the list. The spirit of the album is vibrant; with every track you experience the emotions Kanye West conveys, be it through beat or lyric.

Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp a Butterfly review

It wasn’t too long ago where people thought Kendrick would fall off and go Pop after GKMC based off his features. TPAB is the furthest thing from what we’d consider mainstream pop rap today and I feel like those who thought it would be pop rap are the ones who are disappointed with this album. Although pro-Black and aggressive in ways, I feel like this is still a very accessible album to others and any fan of music. Kendrick’s best album. I copped my physical copy last week to support and you should do the same.

Top 101 Songs of 2017 & Playlist

At What Cost by GoldLink was one of my most anticipated albums coming into 2017 after GoldLink’s 2016 effort And After That We Didn’t Talk. GoldLink met and exceeded my expectations with At What Cost, dropping song of the year “Crew” with DMV-family Brent Faiyaz and Shy Glizzy and another top 20 song in “Summatime” featuring Wale and Radiant Children.

1. Goldlink f/ Shy Glizzy & Brent Fayiaz – “Crew” (Teddy Walton)
2. Sampha – “Timmy’s Prayer” (Rodaidh McDonald & Kanye West)
3. Sampha – “Blood On Me” (Rodaidh McDonald)

Process by Sampha is my #1 Album of the Year across all genres and it has remained at that #1 spot ever since its release way back in February. unchallenged. When “Timmy’s Prayer” leaked late-2015, many speculated that Sampha would go on to create an exceptional, top 5 album. Lo and behold, here it is. Process. AOTY

Lloyd Banks – Hunger For More 2 album review

Hunger For More 2 starts off very generic. Lloyd Banks’ flow cadences are pretty good on “Take Em To War (feat Tony Yayo)” and “Unexplainable (feat Styles P)”, but I can’t help but feel that his delivery is off, as well as his voice and vocal performance as a whole. Banks delivers his lines in a grating slur that gets annoying quickly. The album’s first 3-4 songs doesn’t give much desire to finish the album.
