THROWBACK: Lil Wayne – Sorry 4 the Wait Review

Lil Wayne – Sorry 4 the Wait

Released: 2011 July 13

The mixtape circuit is where Wayne is given the most acclaim musically, so it’s natural that his fans usually anticipate his mixtapes more than his albums. Hence the titled of this mixtape, Sorry 4 The Wait; Wayne is apologizing to fans who had been eagerly anticipating this mixtape.

Run This World: skit/shoutouts

A friend of mine said that he felt this tape was a disappointment because the quality that made Wayne’s mixtapes so intriguing was the fact that he would take over a song – he’d make it HIS with his unique stylings and charisma. Whereas on this mixtape, he doesn’t take control that effectively. Often times he simply follows the flow and cadence that the original artist used. This is troubling. And I can’t help but feel that Wayne lost some of his luster here – more specifically his cleverness and punchlines. We hear him recycle the same punchlines multiple times on this mixtape.

I expected to write a long, thorough review. But all in all there’s not much to say about this mixtape. It’s what you’ve come to expect from Wayne. Punchline after punchline and non-sequiturs with charisma. That can be a good and a bad thing. Take it how you want.

3.7/5 A couple of LOW points but overall a decent mixtape.
